South Africa’s Ministry of Police has strongly denounced recent xenophobic attacks targeting Ghanaian nationals and other foreign residents, warning that those responsible will face swift legal action.

In a statement released on Friday, April 24, the Ministry described the incidents as unlawful and contrary to the country’s constitutional principles. It stressed that such acts violate the core values of dignity, equality, and human rights that underpin South Africa’s democracy.

Authorities underscored that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of any grievances. The Ministry reaffirmed that South Africa operates under the rule of law, which must be respected by all who live within its borders.

The statement further cautioned against engaging in or supporting xenophobia, violence, looting, or intimidation, emphasizing that offenders will face the full force of the law.
Residents were urged to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions or deepen divisions within communities. The Ministry also called on traditional leaders, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to work closely with law enforcement agencies to prevent further outbreaks of violence.
